Tape Services Suite Features Update
New Features - The Virtual Tape Service and Media Manager have been
integrated into the Linux Tape Services Suite. Additional client support
includes the IBM AIX platform. These features will be available
September 1, 2003.
Virtual Tape Service (TSS-VTS)
The Virtual Tape Service is a creative software solution which
allows you to backup and restore data targeted for tape to mainframe
disk storage.
Virtual Tape Service typically achieves Return-On-Investment by :
- Providing fast access to backup and archival data.
- Shortening backup processing windows by eliminating tape mount delays and improved I/O performance.
- Eliminating bottlenecks caused by limited number of tape drives.
- Improving data availability.
- Using existing disk storage for backup and restore without purchasing any
special hardware.
- Reducing/eliminating high, re-occurring maintenance charges on tape drives.
- Reducing physical space allocated to tape storage and tape drives.
Media Manager (TSS-MMG)
The Media Manager provides a centralized database to
control usage, ownership and physical location of tape volumes held within
the Linux/390 tape library, ensuring data protection, media
control, and operating ease and efficiency.
Benefits:
- Provides tape pool and scratch pool management.
- Allow for off-site storage of magnetic tapes.
- Manages ownership, security and retention periods for tapes.
- Manages access to tapes and tape pools.
- Maintains an audit trail of tape usage.
- Provides a web based interface to allow administrators to view and
manipulate the tape library.
