UTS2.1.7 Features

UTS 2.1.5 / 2.1.7 , with a proven track record of high availability UNIX system, provides significant maintenance updates, new functionality and software support, and increased compatibility for processors from other vendors. New features in this release are listed below.

EMCF

Enhanced Model Compatibility Feature that provides UTS system support for compatible IBM. and HDS. processors, previously available only for Amdahl processors.

Relational Data Bases

Availability and support for current releases of designated Relational Database Systems.

UMA and OpenTune

The Universal Measurement Architecture and OpenTune™ Performance Monitor are now available as options UMA™ Performance Data Manager consolidates multiple performance measurement capabilities into one package and allows customers to view real-time performance data, perform in-depth analyses of system resources, and store historical data. OpenTune uses information gathered from UMA as input to create a powerful X-based graphical monitor of current or historical data. OpenTune also provides alarms that mark critical performance thresholds.

UTS/MLS

This release contains several maintenance updates and enables UTS/MLS. customers to take advantage of the maintenance and new function provided in the base UTS release. UTS/MLS is in the United States National Computer Security Center (NCSC) Evaluated Products List at a B1 level security rating.

ACL

UTS provides Automatic Cartridge Loader (ACL) support for 3480 and 3490 tape device. ACL support is provided in both the tape daemon and in the efsbackup utility.

StorageTek. 4400

UTS has an STK 4400 client support upgrade. This upgrade includes support for Release 3.1 of the STK Automated Cartridge System Library Server. Also, the Amdahl STK 4400 Device Allocation algorithm has been modified to ensure assignment of the optimal silo drive. DASD UTS supports current DASD as well. Newly supported devices include the IBM model 9 DASD as well as the soon-to-be released Amdahl 6395 model 9E. Caching is not supported currently.

Compatibility

Brand new with UTS is the optional UTS Enhanced Model Compatibility Feature. EMCF allows operation on selected IBM and HDS processor models. This feature provides support equivalent to what is currently available for Amdahl processors. Customers can now run UTS on non-Amdahl processors with full UTS Global support. This is of particular value to mixed-vendor data centers. With previous releases of UTS 2.1, this support was only available for Amdahl processors. Currently supported models include: IBM HDS 3090 EX50 to EX100 ES/9000 GX8110 to GX8824 9021 GX6115 to GX6425 9121.

Relational Database Systems Supported

UTS 2.1.7 runs following versions of relational database products from the following vendors:

  • INGRES: Release 6.4
  • INFORMIX: Release 5.0.1
  • ORACLE: Version 7.0 Applications Release 9.4
  • UNIDATA. 2.1

Continuing Customer Support

UTS Global is extending support for UTS 2.1 for an indefinite period of time. UTS Global will be providing this support to meet the needs of the installed UTS customers whose migration to UTS 4 requires extended time. UTS 2.1.7 is the last planned maintenance release for UTS 2.1 family product line. Porting activities by independent software vendors will be limited to maintenance activity to bring existing products current with UTS 2.1.7. The investments by both customers and UTS Global has made UTS 2.1 a mature and robust product. With the availability of new software features and hardware support in UTS 2.1, customers can continue to gain from their investments in established UTS 2.1 environments. With UTS Global's policy on continued support, the customer can choose to migrate to UTS 4 when the time is right. UTS Global also offers fee-based enhancements to the standard UTS 2.1 product to meet unique customer requirements. UTS Global offers consulting and education services in all aspects of large-system computing, providing for design and implementation of open-system solutions that meet the needs of the customer.
