UTS Global’s Tape Services Suite (TSS) is a suite of
backup and restore software solutions for customers using
or migrating to Linux, especially on mainframe zSeries or S390 machines. Your company’s information is more
critical every day as a competitive advantage, and with continuing growth of this information it is imperative
the data always be safely stored and protected. Our TSS solution suite consists of several components necessary
to make your backup and restore capabilities both cost effective and efficient. TSS also includes the ability to back up
Oracle and DB2 databases for customers looking
to securely maintain their relational information. TSS supports zSeries and S390 Linux, Intel Linux, AIX, Window
and Solaris.
Backup and Restore via Distributed Tape Services (DTS)
- Backup and Restore is accomplished through Distributed Tape Services that allows multiple heterogeneous
machine clients to mount and access Linux tape volumes over a network connection. The tape management component
provides media access protection, disposition processing and full support of standard tape
labels including expiration date handling. Supported on the mainframe are the 3480, 3490, 3490E and 3590E tape drives.
Via Virtual Tape Services (VTS)
- VTS is a creative, high performance software solution which allows you to backup and restore data targeted
for tape directly to disk storage. Interacting with VTS is much like working with tapes but in this case is done
in a virtual manner. VTS allows you to increase speeds of backup and recovery by using direct physical disks
and can take advantage of under-utilized and inexpensive disk storage of various platforms.
Via Tape Silo Features (TSF)
- UTS Global’s TSF product is the only solution for StorageTek’s tape silos on mainframes that run
Linux. This capability is a standalone ACSLS™ client that controls access to StorageTek® tape silos eliminating
the need for operator intervention.
Companies seeking to protect mission critical data and also lower their total cost of ownership (TCO),
can achieve these goals by consolidating backup and restore functions into
one storage environment from various
machines. Consolidated data storage can help you achieve cost savings through more efficient staff allocation,
easier disaster recovery, better hardware reliability, lowered software costs, better fail-over capability
and minimized physical space/energy requirements. A longer term goal would be to simplify the entire solution
by eliminating the multiple heterogeneous environments and utilize one mainframe environment for your
overall data protection and storage management.
